The LX200 14 inch Meade Telescope is of the schmidt-cassegain type. The focal ratio is an f/10 which gives a focal length of 140 inches or 3556 mm. With its narrow field of view and long focal length this works very well as a planetary or solar system scope. It is the scope of choice for photography of the solar system whether taken with the 35 mm cameras or with digital hand held cameras.
The telescope can be controlled either by computer or by hand controls. The drive is of the equatorial type and as such allows for very long term exposures of film without any rotation of the image.
With the addition of the SBIG Santa Barbara Instrument Group ST-7 CCD donated for use by Ed Henry new horizons will be achievable.
